There were roadworks on the road near my house.

For a week, there was nothing there except traffic lights and cones. No holes. No workers. No work

The contractors were late starting and nobody bothered turning the lights off resulting in mile long tailbacks on one of the only roads in and out of our town.

This happened twice.

Maybe, just maybe local councils need to start holding road work contractors to account for the pointless delays they cause.
