Donald Trump on Friday downplayed the toll on American sailors enduring nearly nine months at sea on the USS Abraham Lincoln as concerns escalated about mental health and supply issues aboard the aircraft carrier supporting U.S. operations against Iran.

In a brief exchange with reporters before flying to New York for an event to highlight falling violent crime rates across the U.S., Trump refuted that family members have raised concerns about the deployment’s length and even said that the deployment — which includes a record-setting uninterrupted time at sea of more than 240 days — is “not nearly long enough.”

He’s so stupid. He just walks into these PR disasters unforced because he can’t come up with something better.

Just wax lyrical about the dedication of your soldiers and how thankful the USA is for them to carry out this important mission. It would be so easy.

Walking headlong into PR disasters and getting away with it is part of the flex of fascism. It’s the same for most of their hypocrisy and ‘rules for thee’ mentality.

Also, he is going senile, my grandma also got weirdly angry at everybody and everything right before she started to forget who we were, and eventually who she was.

It’s a weird benefit of populist, anti-establishment candidates.

They’re just not held to the same standards and their supporters are very dismissive of any wrong doing.

It’s the same with Farage in the UK. We have a populist Pauline Hanson here in Australia who’s the same.

I don’t really have any plausible explanation.

Far too many people want simple (and therefore simplistic) answers to complex problems.

And that’s exactly what populists offer them.

Of course, in the real world, complex problems never have simple solutions that actually work.

And, usually, those simple solutions cause more problems than they solve.

Yes, but that doesn’t explain why populists get a free pass on their bullshit. For example, Trump’s obvious connection with a paedophile ring.

Well, I’m not sure that’s the correct use of the term but even if it were, my question is: why does nobody do that?

                  That’s the part I don’t get too.

It seems like nobody has ever tried to stop the guy. The more he gets away with, the more shit he tries.

Every single one of them that voted for Trump or didn’t vote, got what they deserve. They voted for the leopard eating faces, and now the leopard is on them.
The ones that voted against Trump are the only ones I can really feel sorry for.
Fuck Americans that failed to vote against Trump.

Trump is a malignant narcissist, and that was very clear before the election, it was also clear before he was elected the first time.
If you want a malignant narcissist as leader of your country, you are not right in the head.

There’s no way they could have known. It’s not like he had a history going back into the 70s and 60s of being a… oh, yeah. He did.

You know the joke in Back to the Future where Marty tells Doc the President is Reagan, and he says incredulously, “What? The actor?” Well, imagine going back to any point in the latter 20th century and telling someone that Trump will be President. Anyone would laugh, no matter what party affiliation. Seems we all had standards back then, even if they were still low.

The reason is simply because he’s the perfect tool that the Southern Strategy dreamed of. They never had an idea it would work so well.

The DNC pretty much handed him 2016, and Biden handed him 2024.

The two parties are both trash, and the citizens just rolling over and taking it up the ass, doesn’t help.

That’s not an excuse to sign up to be in the military.

          Stop the bullshit.

Yes the system is built to proliferate poverty and wage slavery.

That doesn’t mean becoming a soldier for the most corrupt nation and government is their only choice. Fuck that lie.

Not the only, but a very attractive one. You don’t need any tools or skills, they will pay for all your relocation, training, food, housing, and you get the TSP and GI Bill.

If it wasn’t for the whole war thing, it’d be damn near a fairly good implementation of socialism.

Fun fact: “walking the plank” was a myth made up by Hollywood. And think about it, would you bother having the ship’s carpenter build a temporary diving board out of precious timber when you could just throw the person overboard instead? There was a punishment called “walking the yard” where they made a man walk off the end of one of the cross-members that held the sails; whether you survived or not depended on the weather and how high up the yard was. Not as cinematic as walking the plank, though.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie where they showed keelhauling or flogging around the fleet.
