I’ve been revisiting anno 2205, infamously the ugly duckling of the Anno series of RTS games. I don’t mind so much the fact that it’s different, lacks customisation and random map generation - I’m bothered because the game is so slow to progress through on challenge settings, and it feels like a game designed just to artificially waste your time; in other anno games, you can always pull tricks to dig yourself out of economic crisis - selling off assets and surplus goods, completing quests for other parties, or taking loans. 2205 is very very confined in terms of what you can do to financially recover in the early game and forces you into a lot of military events.

Every now and then I try NMS again after like a couple of big updates have dropped and I’m like “bro this is the same game as before water you all on about” (exaggerating a little but that’s basically how I feel). Still I can’t hate the devs since they’ve poured 10 years of additional work into the game at no cost to us.

Once you clear the first planet you’ve experienced everything the game has to offer as far as I’m concerned

I just replayed it a month, now about ten years after the last time I played, and I actually had a good time with it. They added a lot of stuff to actually do and it felt much more entertaining. It’s still not going to be for everyone, but I’d say it more than matches what they original promised at least.
