Can you believe it? It’s been three years already!
I want to thank everyone for being around for three years! I really appreciate everyone who has been building communities, participating actively, or even just lurking around and upvoting things!
With that, I would like to introduce a few new services to help people build their communities on the Fediverse.
Introducing WikiAni (wiki.ani.social)
WikiAni is a federated wiki (see Ibis). Hopefully this provides a place for users to write collaborative long form content that is easy to reference across the internet.
Although the significance of federation for a wiki is questionable, I thought it would be an interesting project to try.
I’m still developing the policies for the wiki, but generally you’re free to write about most things. Even things not necessarily related to anime.
Introducing EroAni (ero.ani.social)
Erotic spaces have always been a part of otaku culture but are often under attack by the mainstream.
EroAni is a PieFed instance dedicated to erotic anime content and other related media (erotic manga, erotic games, NSFW cosplay, ASMR, etc). Federation with EroAni is very limited. Currently, only Ani.Social and FediNSFW.app are allowed to access content on EroAni (and vice versa).
By having a separate instance for erotic (H) content, Ani.Social’s local feed will remain as it is, and users looking for more erotic content can browse through any EroAni community. This also means that other instances that don’t allow explicit NSFW can still safely federate with Ani.Social.
The policies for EroAni are still being developed so other users are free to give their thoughts on building up EroAni. Feel free to negotiate!
(You can still continue posting lewd pictures on Ani.Social’s local feed. Nothing has really changed about that. Just check with the community you’re posting to first.)
Join the Matrix server!
A few months ago, we launched a Matrix server. If you haven’t joined already, you can join the space via #space:ani.social which includes chatrooms for anime, manga, and visual novels. There’s a general chatroom to talk about anything and everything else.
You can connect using an existing Matrix account but if you would like to use an account hosted under ani.social, feel free to send me a message for a registration code.
Helping the Fediverse
Oftentimes, I see people asking, “How can I help and support the Fediverse?” There are many ways to do that:
-
If you know how to code, please consider contributing toward the open source development of Fediverse projects such as Lemmy or PieFed, or even your front-end of choice!
-
Please don’t hesitate to post or comment. I know some people hesitate to post and comment things but please have the courage to speak out your mind! Ascend from your lurkership.
-
Upvote things! It’s an indication to users that their post is seen by others. Lemmy does not have a way to display post views, so upvoting is actually encouraging.
-
Report rule-breaking content. If you see something that breaks community rules, please report it so moderators and admins are aware.
-
Volunteer to mod. When a community is calling for moderators and you like that community, try volunteering as a moderator. Likewise, to moderators, please don’t abandon what you’ve built. I know it can be discouraging sometimes, but we should always be ready for newcomers.
-
Be nice. I always say this and I will never stop repeating it. Being a nice individual has positive effects on your surroundings. This means communities can be healthier just by being nice.
Looking toward the future
In the coming months, there will be a few revisions to the Terms of Use as well as some changes to the branding of the site. I am also removing myself from the moderator position of most communities I am a part of. This is to give other community moderators as much freedom as they want to run communities their way. This also allows me to focus on administrative duties instead.
Lastly, please wish Senjougahara Hitagi a happy birthday! She’s the light of this world. The source of truth and comfort in these confusing times. She’ll take care of you from ingestion to excretion. We are worms who are undeserving of her but here she is graciously floating like butterfly.

HAPPY GAHARA-SAMA DAY!!!
I just created an account on ero.ani.social.
For new accounts by default, the setting “NSFW posts” is set to “Hide Completely”
https://ero.ani.social/user/settings/filters
That’s probably a piefed default.
This setting also hides NSFW /c’s as well as posts.
As someone else on /c/eroani pointed out, this is disorienting for folks with new accounts.
I think it’s safe to assume that anyone who is creating an account there knows what is up, and will want to start seeing NSFW content and communities immediately.
I’d recommend you change the default setting, with maybe a disclaimer for NSFW content on this server when creating the account.
Should be fixed now. Thanks!
Happy birthday Hitagi! 🎉
good, i will try it !
@hitagi@ani.social I wanted to create a new community, but it says “You are not able to do this action due to being a very new account or because of a low reputation.”
Not sure if bug or intended, but I think it would be nice to have this restriction off for a new instance that has zero communities, lol.It was hard coded in PieFed :/ but I removed it now. You should be able to make a community regardless of age now.
Alright, thanks. I created a new community, but it works a bit weird. For some reason, I can’t see my own posts there. I tried “hide/unhide post from myself” but it didn’t work. I ended up creating two duplicate posts but I managed to delete one of them, so there should be one currently. It’s accessible from here via https://ani.social/c/monstercock@ero.ani.social
Added: also I don’t see it in local communities for some reason
Added: ah, I found it, in personal settings in Blocks there is “NSFW: Hide Completely” by default, I changed it to “Show” and I can see my post, however I still can’t see my community, there might be a global piefed instance setting that hides NSFW communities 🤔
Added: nevermind, I can see it now, not sure if it’s some cache invalidation issue then
Thanks for letting me know. I’ll see if I can make it so that NSFW is enabled by default for new users. (it is an NSFW instance after all)
Nice, although, the name sounds unnecessarily verbose and clunky. Would be great to get a better name like hentai.social or cream.piefed.social
Or maybe even cocks.ani.social 😳
It reads nicely, but probably not as inclusive and broad as needed.
So how does ero.ani.social work? If ani.social is our home server in the fediverse do we see the ero content as part of our ani.social feed, and anyone who signed up to a different server in the fediverse can’t see it? Or do we specifically have to go to ero.ani.social to see the H content?
I can’t sign into eroani at all. It doesn’t recognize my ani.social account. I guess that answered my question. It just doesn’t work…
The idea is that H communities can reside in “ero.ani.social” instead of “ani.social”. Communities from ero.ani.social can still be accessed via ani.social. But to make a new community on ero.ani.social, you need to make an account there.
It’s a bit confusing at the moment, but I think it will make more sense overtime as ero.ani.social becomes more populated with communities.
You just need to register a new account. It’s completely independent instance im my understanding, it’s only federated with ani.social, which means you will see posts from ero.ani.social in **global feed ** on ani.social and vice versa, but most other instances will only see post from ani.social in their global feed and not from ero.ani.social. It’s a great policy because people get offended by hentai and could easily go with crusade against whole instance if that was popping in their feed often. By the way, you can subscribe and post to ero.ani.social communities from ani.social as well, and you can find them through community search (there aren’t any at the moment, maybe I’ll create one as a test).
I’m still developing the policies for the wiki, but generally you’re free to write about most things. Even things not necessarily related to anime.
I mean, 湖, Dustloop, et al need mirrors.
And so do VNDB need to be 🪞.It’s just federation implies multiple instances, so if WikiAni is down, wiki.evageeks.org should be up to follow up.
I’m nowhere near close to my mirror.
That does seem like a very good use case.
