I know this might sound like I am glancing over all the hard work of mangakas but I’m really not, just venting my despair… x)

How are you people able to follow a story and not go mad when the chapters are sometimes ~ so. damn. SLOW ~ to release ?
I had read a manga 5 years ago, it was 22 chapters at the time, but for some reason it stuck with my mind and I finally decided check and re-read it again a few days ago.
Half a day, 53 chapters(*) later and I was already done reading it. I’m now just dreading having to wait 5 more years for it to maybe finish. Or follow the drip of releases. I think it’s one of those monthly releases (maybe less since there ~40 new chapters over 5+ years).
Do you guys follow releases ? Do you not ?
I personally almost never do…
One funny thing I notice I do when I know I’m getting close to the the last chapters of a manga I like. In my manga reader, I ignore the chapter number and just click my “Next Chapter” button praying to god it won’t be the last one 😂
Again, not a critic of the author(s).

You read a lot of stuff at once, and you wait for a good chunk of it to be done before you begin with a chunk

This. I have 48 titles currently listed in my “reading” category. Maybe only a quarter of them get updated regularly within a month. The real challenge is remembering wtf is going on in some of them when they do update.

Yeah that’s my thing as well, I used to have tracked titles for which I would get notifications for but I think I did just not enjoy reading chapter by chapter and I stopped at some point.

It can be frustrating sometimes, but since I’m keeping up with dozens of manga right now there’s always something new for me to read.

Also, growing up I had to wait years for series like The Wheel of Time to complete so this was nothing new to me when I got into manga.

Yeah same I have waited quite a while for some tv series and anime to continue and finish. But idk, it seems to the worst with manga. It might be the slow drip feed of chapters that accentuates the feeling. You are more required to pace yourself I guess.

Usually if it’s not exceptionally good, I just drop the series. I have currently 15 series marked as “reading”. If I really can’t wait, I check if there is !lightnovels@ani.social version.

Actually, reading books and light novels has really exacerbated that feeling for me lol I used to have that same feeling even 5+ years ago, but it has gotten worse since I got into books x)

You got to follow some weekly releases. I have a new chapter to read every other day at least. Just focus on the weeklies, and put the monthly+ on the back burner. Then when those monthly+ series release, it’s like a nice treat. Alternatively, find some other hobbies to fill you time with.
