The PlayStation Vita is one of the best handheld games consoles ever made so when news started circulating that Sony was working on a new handheld device we all started to get excited.
Then they announced Project Q. A remote play only device that MUST be tethered to a PlayStation 5 essentially making it a very expensive DualSense that’s been sliced in half and had a screen glued to it. Prices are rumoured to be in the £250 - £300 range for a device that can’t play a single game on its own. There are suggestions it will eventually be able to stream games from the cloud but this isn’t certain yet.
You could buy a Backbone One for £100 then you essentially have one of these which makes the rumoured price seem, shall we say, a tad high.
Do you plan on picking one up or are you going to stick with using your phone?
I wonder why they’re so hesitant to come back to the handheld market. Of course, the Vita was a failure, but I think they could come back from that. After all, the Vita is remembered rather fondly, and from a technical POV, it was good hardware. And the PSP was just a big success. There’s also this handheld craze right now, I bet they could capitalize on that with some nostalgia for the PSP/Vita and with their know-how.
