I’m working on a personnal project called “Octa Solis” (just little stories taking place in a solarpunk city)!
It turned out pretty good i think but in my next concepts i’d like them to be a lot more solarpunk in the designs
Ultimately I’ll try and animate it! 😁
I’m not sure if this will help, but I put together a list over on the writing wiki of elements that people in solarpunk spaces previously said they’d like to see in solarpunk art/writing.
The list is here. Your art is already conveying tons of cool solarpunk elements so this may be kinda redundant or not rigorous enough. Semi-related, I always want to emphasize salvage and reuse in solarpunk so I might point you to a list of ways parts from cars could be reused.
OH ! This is some gold mine your giving me here ! this will be incredibly useful, thank you so much ! you have quite a lot of content already in the list ! honestly, when I’m researching for solarpunk elements a lot of solarpunk images tend to be AI junk, picturing the same ideas over and over again (there is so many It’s so sad) so having people direct ideas and what they’d like to see in a solarpunk futur is such a blast (and much more inspiring) ! thanks a lot !
I’m so glad! I love digging into the gritty details for worldbuilding so I’ve been having a lot of fun formalizing my own notes and building out new pages. Pushing back on nonsense trends (and eventually AI) is a big part of why I started researching and making solarpunk art! I spent a lot of time trying to croudsource input before I did a scene - the same way you’re doing, and I think it’s an important part of getting it right.
Some nice drawings 👍
What are your ideas to make it “a lot more solarpunk”?
thanks a lot ! 😁
Well for now I’m not sure how to present this graphically… But I would like it to be much more evident that the city is powered by green energy (solar, wind power, hydroelectric power, else), and that permaculture is present in town—or at least much more nature and biodiversity as wildlife—, that there is free access to covered places for rest, recreational activities, and community gatherings/events.
I’ve also included a tiny bit of accessibility for people with disabilities, but I’d like the representation to be clearer that the city is designed with the most vulnerable people in mind (i.e., children, the elderly), and people with limited mobility—with plenty of public transportation, bike lanes, and few cars. But for now, I have to admit I’m still stuck in my old mindset of cities where cars and verticality dominate, so it’s a bit of a mental stretch to rethink everything…
I’m trying to draw up plans for small sections of the city and it looks like a puzzle hahaEdit : Also I’m very up to any advice or ideas, so if anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to share them
:OOO this is so cool!! I also really appreciate that the one on the left features both stairs and a ramp, as someone who uses both a cane and a wheelchair, it means a lot to me to see accessibility kept in mind :D
I wanna visit this place!!
I’m very happy this spoke to you, i hope my other concepts will be even more accessibility friendly, I’m also digging in studies of “age-friendly designs” and i see some pretty interesting stuff really 🤔 I’ll post again when I have something a bit more polished ! :D
