My cat knows what pill pockets are. She’s too fucking smart for her own good.
She doesn’t go for pill pockets, if you mash it into her food she won’t eat near it, if you give her wet medicine she’ll start making herself froth at the mouth so you can’t make her swallow it (she does this when she hears you touch the medicine packaging) or she’ll make herself puke after.
The only way to give her medicine is to shove a pill all the way down her throat, it’s a huge hassle, and then she’s mad at you for the rest of the day after.
We had to do similarly for one of our cats. Grab the cat. Bend the head up. It will practically force the mouth open. Shove the pill deep into it. Close the mouth.
At least, at some point she learned to give up and stop resisting so damn hard every time.
It really depends on the cat’s personality. I had one that absolutely hated taking medicines and she behaved in the same way. Others will just gladly take the pill if you hide it in a treat.
She just hates medicine, or anything where she’s not in control of herself.
My other cat will take any medication as long as you don’t startle him. He runs away when he sees you’ve got the applicator thing but will run back if you call for him.

Get an applicator (looks like a thin syringe but without the injection part in front) thank me later!
We have tried those, she’s just a tough nut.

My wife does the closed mouth trick, but I just shove it all the way down and it’s over in like a second. The sooner it’s done the less she fights.
