After Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter, many scientists report the platform is no longer suitable for professional use. A recent survey indicates that researchers are increasingly turning to Bluesky, which they view as more useful, welcoming, and aligned with their goals.
Here’s a thought: no microblogging platform is suitable for professional use. Cut it out, stop it.
Clearly it was suitable for their purposes at one time?
It was exceptionally useful during the Arab spring.
When it was just “a text message to the world” it had its use.
I feel like maybe the Arab Spring, inspirational as it was, was half-baked. I believe it’s possible that open broadcast microblogging system might have generated a sense of solidarity and community that exceeded the facts on the ground.
Why not? Science should be done in the public view. I want more professional scientists in my feed.
EDIT: and amateur scientists. And non-scientists who are curious.
