What subtler things make you think or notice someone is [highly] privileged?

One I notice in myself: a lack of fear about police interactions. I can deal with cops without worrying that they’ll assault/kill/kidnap me and drop me in the middle of nowhere for a laugh - not everyone has that privilege (though I’d call it more of a right) and I can only imagine it makes a big difference.

I don’t think that falls in the privileged category but the more general category of how wealthy you are. Imo privileged requires that you were raised with wealth.

Its all relative but yes that makes sense as well. To me, anyone that can just casually buy food is “rich”.

When gas passed $1/L in Canada and I decided to ride my bike and got rid of my car. I was a university student and couldn’t really afford the car anyway. But I’ve never left a gas station because the price was too high. If you need gas, you need gas.

They often have simple “solutions” to the others’ problems.

Much like Marie Antoniette — if you don’t have bread, eat cake, problem solved. /s

Having parents that were able and willing to bail you out during bad times. Not in a get you out of jail sense, but even as simple as having room and food available, no matter what. This level of stability, and how helpful it can be, is something i don’t think many people appreciate enough in their lives.

    Wealth

The more people have it, the easier they believe that someone without any could get their own wealth.

Especially those born with wealth … it doesn’t have to be great wealth either … just enough wealth to get a good education, a good start and even some help to start life as an adult. The more people have it, the more they believe that everyone around them is the same and if it isn’t, then it’s someone’s failing or inability. Wealthy people can’t understand that wealth is generational - that everyone should be born wealthy and if they aren’t it’s the fault of the person who was born or their family (who were also not born wealthy)

The mindset makes them privileged. You don’t have to be rich. It’s more about ignorance, arrogance and self-involvement.
