Superman is literally a Christ figure. He’s basically a god, he loves humanity, and he constantly sacrifices himself to save us. Naturally, the religious right hates him.
In the comics, for a while, they tried to pretend he was by retconning his origin to have his ship give birth to him. Happened in the '80s so you can probably guess why they did it.
It was very weird. Luckily he’s back to his normal origin now.
Once upon a time the slogan used to be “truth, justice, and the American way”. Guess which part people wanted to keep, which parts they wanted to throw out the window.
It used to be Truth, Justice, and Peace. That is until the US went into marketing mode and recruited all superheroes into ‘the American way’ for WW2 propaganda.
You prompted me to look up an article, and it’s an interesting history. Apparently, “the American way” didn’t actually appear in a comic until 1991. It’s almost exclusively a phrase for radio and television.
He wasn’t even the first to call him that so publicly.
This is an official WB documentary which got released with Superman Returns in 2006. I forgot when exactly but I’m pretty sure the narrator called him that within the first, maybe 20 minutes or so.
Well yeah, he is an alien character from another planet written by two Jewish immigrants, and often deals with issues about fitting into his adopted society. This is not a new revelation, it’s a founding cornerstone of his character.
I’ve slowly distanced myself from political communities so now I see nonsense like this and wonder what’s going on out there.
The new Superman movie basically had the message of “Don’t be a shit person”; people are outraged.
lol, you could have said this at any point in the last 50 years and I would have believed you completely
Well you see, the movie’s message was “Don’t be a shit person, including to brown people”. You can probably tell what got conservatives so outraged.
Oh I can hear them now:
“Oh sure, and next you’ll be telling me to be nice to my dog and my kids, <slur>!”
Username checks out
lol, like every Superman media ever? Superman is super, man. He’s always stood up for the little guy, the underdog, the (dare I say) immigrant.

Every superman media save for the Snyder films.
James Gunn said Superman is an immigrant, which he of course is.
But I guess some people thought he was born in the USA.

You should also look up the images… Nothing like Batman and Robin on the front lines while still telling kids to buy war bonds in the ads.

hopefully superman 2’s message is “immigrants are better than racists”
I wanna hear that in a condescending satire waltz opera
The bad guys have a military to gun down brown unmarked families to take over a neighboring country.
Zionists: and I took that personally.
