Title.
I’m hoping to move on to Idiocracy pretty swiftly but need an overture.
As a Gen Zer who’s into 90s adult animation, I don’t think B&B needs a particular episode. It’s a pretty simple show when it comes down to it, it’s a bunch of gags about stupid people being stupid.
If I am being honest I do not think Gen Z’ers as a whole would appreciate that kind of humour based on my experience with people in that age group. Obviously not a universal rule, but that kind of humour doesn’t seem very relevant to newer generations.
Frankly - my kids in front of the tv is pure Beavis and Butt-head :D
Fair point!
If the end goal is moving to Idiocracy, I do not remember exactly the episode but I do remember Beavis and Butthead met people who were dumber than them, which was the whole episode, and the humour felt a lot like what Idiocracy was as a whole.
It has been a long time since I saw the show so hopefully you know what I am talking about, and that I am not misremembering it. haha
Like a lot of things from the past, it’s best to view this in context. The original B&B ran from '93 to '97, long before internet streaming was a thing. Commercial radio still controlled what music most people heard. This show broke the mold and exposed people to A: underground music that didn’t get airplay “ladies and gentlemen… the Butthole Surfers” and B: older music that didn’t get played on the radio anymore. FM radio was pretty freeform until the mid 80’s when deejays were required to stick to a strict playlist. The impact was obvious when CD sales spiked for old/underground music after being featured on the show. Same thing for songs used in video game soundtracks.
Cornholio.
I used to love an episode where Butthead gets a nosebleed and keeps making it worse and worse, I think it was just called Nosebleed. There was another episode where he thinks he’s pregnant. I was a teenager at the time so I don’t know if they’re still funny.
Actually the film (Beavis and Butthead Do America) stills holds up. I watched about a year ago and still enjoyed it. There’s a newer film which is supposed to be really good but I haven’t watched it yet.
Do America is still so funny I laughed the entire way through it.
Hehehehe “slots”
After gerting a full cavity search:
huhuh, did I just score?
I often work “Don’t stop 'til you reach the back of their teeth!” into conversation…
I also think it was called Nosebleed and is my answer to this question as well. That one and Worker’s Constipation are my favorites.
I watched Idiocracy last night. It’s still funny, but it hits way closer to home now.
Now I gotta rewatch Ren and Stimpy
The overture is Office Space.
That shit is a documentary.
Idiocracy is standalone. If you want anything to watch beforehand, check out Office Space.
But if you really want to watch Beavis and Butthead, virtually any episode will do. I recommend the sex ed episode. You can also look up “Beavis and Butthead [insert 90s band you like here]” to find some of their music video commentaries.
EDIT: I realized from the other comments you’re talking about initiating your kids? Yeah definitely the sex ed episode. Laughing at the word ‘penis’ spans all generations.
I don’t think Beavis and Butthead are mandatory for enjoying Idiocracy.
If you insist, just pick a couple of your favorites and see how they take it.
it’s difficult because they don’t come with the music videos anymore. that was peak beavis & butthead. breakin the law. breakin the law…
If you were out on the high seas, one may search for the “King Turd collection” which was assembled by fans to be the most complete version of the original show out there.
I’m not sure if I pulled down that exact compilation, but it includes the videos, yeah I enjoy those old music videos as much or more than the show itself!
I don’t have it seeding any more since I rebuilt my server and lost a lot of long time seeds, but IIRC it should be around 75GB and was available on TPB last I checked.
Yar. Thank ye.
whorehouse
Hard to pick an episode in particular but I would definitely do one from the latest reboot. It’s still got the same feel as the original show but they commentate Tiktoks and YouTube videos so it would be more relevant to Gen Z. Then maybe later they can move on to the original show if they really like it
The yoga pants episode from the newer seasons got me in tears :D
I liked the reboot. I’d recommend the hoarders episode.
I re-watched a few episodes recently. I agree that it’s simply not going to resonate with anyone younger than a Millennial. There was a lot of cultural context and subtexts that made sense at the time that will absolutely be lost on Zoomers.
Just go straight to Idiocracy. It doesn’t need prologue any more than Office Space would.
