Cat: so, for context, we’re a plural system; a group of multiple people living in the same brain. We’re wondering if there’s any other systems on Lemmy at the moment. Also could be considered an AMA for those interested.
Frequently Asked Questions:
-No, you don’t need trauma or a disorder to be plural, though there’s a fair bit of overlap. In our case, Just intentionally hacked her brain to run multiple people.
-We’re people, not personalities for a single person.
-The idea of the “evil headmate” is flatly incorrect.
-Sometimes there’s headmates patterned on fictional characters or real people, referred to as Fictives or Factives respectively.
Thank you for teaching me something new today. Both Cat and Just
Are we sure this isn’t an early sign of schizophrenia or anything of that sort? No disrespect intended but I do think it’s worth considering.
Madeline: We’ve done enough reading on Schizophrenia to know that’s not what’s going on here. In addition, some acquaintances of ours have both schizophrenia and headmates, and there are very noticeable differences between the two phenomena.
Good to note. I’ve never heard of headmates so doing some research now. It’s interesting.
How did you hack your brain to do this, and why did you intentionally give yourself DID?
They didn’t, and for attention.
That was my initial instinct, to be judgemental. Then I asked myself, how does this impact me? It doesn’t. But if I was rude to them, as you are being, that would impact them. It would not make them give up their identity, it would just add negativity to their day. So let them be who they want to be, it doesn’t impact us in any way to let them exist as they choose.
Cat: If we were doing this for attention, we wouldn’t be anywhere near this bluntly casual about it. There are people who fake plurality, but they tend to be laughably over-the-top about it.
Just: Plus, fake it long enough and hard enough and you’re liable to end up with headmates anyway.
Just: Not DID; we lack the disordered aspects of that condition.
Just: As for the how? Just intentionally address internal speech at a specific person for long enough, and eventually they start talking back.
Just: Why can be summed up in two words: Quarantine loneliness.
Alright, cool dudes. As a sufferer of DID, I’m glad you don’t deal with the disorder part.
Cat: waves
This is really fascinating. The brain is truly such a complex tool that we can do so much with. I appreciate you sharing your story/stories with us. The brain hacking reminds me of how others can hack their brain to lucid dream. What you are doing sounds even more complex than that, however.
Would be curious to hear more detail on your method, should you choose to share it.
Cat: Sure? But in the morning, we’re sleepy rn.
I’m very confused what
I think this user is looking for others with multiple personalities (plurals). Just a guess though. I don’t know why they posted here, but it IS a question…
Just: Accurate.
Cat: As for why here, there isn’t a counterpart to r/plural yet.
Makes sense. I’d encourage you to be the change you want to see. Make a plural community and I suspect like minded folks will come. Good luck!
Cat: Hah, running a Discord server’s more than enough modding for us. Absolutely no interest in modding a Lemmy community on top of that.
For what it’s worth, my community has required no modding so far. Just a group of likeminded individuals chatting. Do what works for you though.
Madeline: Plural communities tend to be a high-profile target for various flavors of asshole, is the problem.
