For those looking to get RARBG’s x265 encodes back, there is a new uploader by the name of INFINITY that is going to start encoding stuff the same way RARBG did, here’s his post on the Torrentgalaxy forums https://i.imgur.com/Y6NwJBP.png , check it out, what do you guys think?
I’m not sure about the “AI Enhancing”… in general I would prefer that things be as close as possible to the official release. And certainly I would hope that if something has not just been re-encoded, but visually altered, that it would be clearly marked as such.
Yeah it should be clearly marked if AI enhanced. Also I would think new material should already be available in 1080p/4K I am not sure why you would want to AI enhanced it at all.
I could see AI enhancing being useful in content that wasn’t ever released in 1080p or 4K. For example there are many old TV shows they only ever got a DVD release or the source film was never scanned into 4K resolution.
There was (unfortunately dumb Discord drama pulled it apart) an archiving group that was trying to get every single Cartoon Network and Warner cartoon, and they custom built an upscale ERSGAN model for Ed, Edd n Eddy, even using actual purchased animation cels as training material.
While it inevitably has some issues, it’s a great experience to have, watching something in 4K which would only ever existed in 720p (or lower? 576p?).

That is cool. I have seen a few projects using AI to enhance old TV shows. There was one that worked on Stargate SG1 and I think a few working on Star Trek Voyager and Deep Space 9. Looked pretty good from the samples I have seen.
I hope you’ve heard of 4k77 :) I recently watched an upscaled version of James Cameron’s Abyss and war blown away by it.
Yes i have heard of 4k77. It has been awhile since i have looked into it. But I thought that was mostly film scanning to get the 4K resolution. Super cool either way.
The Abyss is a great movie, I bet it did look amazing upscaled.
They’ve finished I think, the second one is done too (4k82? I’m not sure). From what I understand it was about film scanning to reconstruct the original theatrical release without the cuts Lucas did to remove his then wife’s work, not doing the weird digital noise reduction thing that Disney did when they made their 4k versions and color toning to match the original release. It looks pretty cool :) I think ML was only used for the color part.
It felf great to have a Cameroon movie that had great plot and looked really good :) The print I watched felt like someone’s labour of love, so even more precious.
