Let’s see if we can get a tiny bit of activity here so I’m not 95% of this sub ;)

Аркона (before Явь), Eluveitie (early), and Korpiklaani (early). If you expand “folk” a little more, then Finntroll and Moonsorrow!

Thanks for the post, dude. We’re all waiting for something to respond to, I suspect. Maybe we can get some conversations spun up talking about new releases? I wonder if bandcamp has a way to do that.

Personally, I really dig Tyr, and Finntroll is top tier depending on the song.I don’t think Moonsorrow count, personally. For me, the hard part is find ping bands with (for me) the mix of folk vs metal. Too much folk and there’s no metal (or you sound like a Us country band), too much metal and wimp thinking “why am I listening to you again”?

You might give Batushka a listen. Combination of black metal and a church service. Some folk-ish vibes.

Well, crap, I feel like a tool now. And I didn’t know about the release day roundup, that’s awesome!

Finntroll - yeah, I get that, they can be goofy or odd; Tyr’s ”Land” just really clicked with me, but not all of it does.

I actually saw one of the Big Folk Metal bands live (can’t remember which one), with Tyr, and when they pulled out the fiddle I texted my wife “turns out I hate all country, not just US country”

Batushka - wasn’t my thing either, but figured you might be, even if I wasn’t. I should’ve been more clear. That said, need to go relisten.

Yeah, engagement is tough. There’s like 200 people in here, maybe, so it’s an uphill battle. I’m on here for the occasional gem that I wouldn’t have found through regular prog/melodeath metal, so a lot of this isnt my thing, but engagement is needed and it’s not like the other music subs I’m on are doing even this much, so I have some spare time. :)

Thanks for the posts, including all the stuff that I glide over.

Saltatio sure made an interesting progression.

I remember being to one of their earlier concerts 20 years ago when they had just discovered that sometimes it is nice to use the ocassional electric guitar. Was in a small youth club not much bigger than my flat. The bagpipes sounds felt like never-ending multidirectional pressure waves in this setting.

Forgot about them since than for some reason until my GF surprised me with tickets for a concert last year. And boy this has been a surprise.

And I actually love their new stuff. Rockier but they kept the bagpipes and the phantastic live performance!
