path of exile 2 is it. that said respect for the goats
“Sounds great, but hear me out, how about everything is AI generated!”
I’m sure I’ve called it.
They’ve used procedurally generated parts since the start, which is basically early ai. Hopefully they don’t go full monty though.
AI is also used to describe enemy behavior
I thought OG Diablo devs made Torchlight, which is an excellent game.
The first two are great. The latest one is shite.
T1 was enough to scratch an itch. T2 was the complete experience. Never tried T3. I remembe they made it an MMO at first but changed it later? No clue.
I agree with you completely about the first two. I actually reviewed the third.
T3 was supposed to be a microtransaction trash game. They changed their minds during development but it came out weird/bad as a result.
The same composer worked on both as well
Hellgate London 2
I can only dream. 😿
Literally no one asked for what they are trying to push, lol. Oh yes give me more of those cloud servers, and battle passes! 🥴
What? How do you think multiplayer games work. lol
Tell me how they work, if you are trying to insinuate that mentioned things are required somehow, I won’t laugh.
Cloud based gaming servers are simply flexible game servers that have multiple international locations with dynamic load distributions instead of old fixed location game servers. There’s literally nothing wrong with that over the old and less flexible method because this gives you servers that are closer to your personal location, which means less ping, and them being able to scale means it is less likely of them just crapping themselves under heavier load, because they can scale up dynamically when needed.
4.5 million seems like not a very high budget unless it’s only meant to be seed money and release into early access like last epoch.
The article says it’s only seed money
thanks for comprehending the reading so i don’t have to
“Every monster is the Butcher”
You play as the butcher
Fresh meat!
A Butcher that stalked you from the shadows like a kobold would be terrifying
Diablo had great lighting effects. In the catacombs you’d see a flash of movement in the dark, before being attacked by a goat demon who had used the darkness to get around behind you. The later instalments in the series made enemies much more visible, and lost something for it.
Yes! I was trying to explain this at a PoE 2 launch party but no one got it. I know Diablo is likely dated in a lot of ways, but unlike with other entries, I remember actually getting scared while playing it. Like it actually felt like overcoming an ordeal.
Is there an ARPG that doesn’t have some former D1 or D2 staff member on it? I’m sure the old janitors from Blizz North had to end up somewhere too.
The more the merrier. Last Epoch was also made by veterans of the genre from what I remember.
Incorrect, LE was made by fans of the genre that had to learn game development from the ground up.
They were veteran gamers, not developers, if you will. A BIG distinction.
What does that even mean? Why were d1 and d2 good? Plenty of games have come and gone with similar features.
Just as Harry potter wasn’t a great story, but had great timing, I think d2 was the same. It was good but it also was at the right time.
Walk up to area full of rather boss looking dudes, fuck em all up, take their gear and then spend 30 minutes ooing and aaahing over said gear has been a cornerstone gameplay loop for many games for decades.
It’s, dare I say it?
fun?
Fill the area with cool lore, art direction and fold it into a story and hey, maybe it’s a little more fun.
Diablo 2 is still in my top 5 games of so time, so I’m absolutely on board for whatever those devs want to try next for an ARPG. Diablo 3 and 4 were both good in different ways, but I feel like Blizzard has never been able to match the atmosphere and overall feeling of D2. So far, POE 2 has come the closest and it will only get better as time for on. By the time this comes out they’re going to have to do a lot to compete with a mature POE 2.
Not one mention of Titan Quest in these comments 😔
Whenever you see hardcore fans say “this obscure low budget game is the actually the greatest of all time”, chances are it’s just bad. TQ is one of those games. I played it this year (all expacs) because of the hype and it was not a good use of my time.
In the meantime, highly encourage folks to checkout grim dawn. Still gets updates even though it released years ago. Game worthy of buying to support these types of devs.
We’re going back to what made those early Diablo games feel so awesome but taking them in some cool, fresh directions
I hope they find a way to add more variety to the gameplay interactions. Not just having a variety of builds that work though that’s important too. but it feels like no matter what your build is you then have the same approach to all encounters. There’s lots of different mob types and random modifiers on them but either it breaks your build and you can’t clear them…or you clear them the same way you clear everything else.
We’re going back
Awesome. Another high-quality graphical Rogue spinoff? I’m there.
In the meantime, check out Torchlight 1&2 if you need something to tide you over. They’re on the old side, but IMO scratch that itch.
