I used to be pretty happy with their online services but last year they failed to lodge my taxes even though I had them ready and paid months ahead of the due date. Very disappointing.

I’m currently unemployed and I can’t do the taxes myself. Too hard to understand all the jargon and what goes where. I had a few short jobs here and there, supplemented with some freelance work, so I’m not the typical one-payslip-employee case.

Before HR Block I used to go to an accountant but I’m estimating today that’s going to cost me around $400 the least. I’m living off savings until I find work so I’d rather avoid this.

So I’m reaching out to you, aussie lemmings, in case you have any good alternatives. Thanks

Have you tried filing online recently? It’s become very simple and relatively user friendly over the past few years. If your short jobs were PAYG and you have receipts for your freelance work and any deductions, it’s pretty doable.

This is an old comment in an old post, but thanks again- I’ve just lodged my own taxes myself this year in under 20 minutes. You were not wrong, things have changed a lot!

No, I haven’t tried in the past few years. I might have a look, thanks for the suggestion
