I think he’d be great in the cabinet, although I know in the past he said he’s not interested in that (president or bust).

*Can someone explain the downvotes?

He had a good thing bringing UBI into the national conversation, other than that he comes off very disingenuous and self-interested to me, and lacks the qualifications for the positions he has run for.

Also, his UBI was essentially a demolition of the welfare state. No conservative actually wants to give you money without strings attached.

Yes, I called him a conservative. Because he is.

*Probably because the question is political in nature and people are fed up of seeing it outside of political subs. I know this is nostupidquestions but during (American) election season especially it’s somewhat an etiquette to exercise political hygiene.

Well, today I learned the USA has a “Forward Party” and someone called Andrew Young who founded it 😅 I can’t contribute anything of substance here. I also think that question would be a better fit in some community dedicated to US politics.

If you knew why you got downvoted you wouldn’t have had to ask. But you asked, and you got an answer; what you think isn’t really relevant.

Yang has never held office. I don’t think he has any business in the highest levels of politics. He doesn’t even know what he doesn’t know.

IIRC, Yang ended up being pretty far right as far as Democratic candidates went; not who I would want in a cabinet-level position.

Beyond that, he really doesn’t have direct political experience, and being in a cabinet does require pretty solid abilities at managing politics. Or, it does if you want to be effective. The gov’t isn’t a business, and it shouldn’t be run the same way a for-profit business is run. To that end, I don’t think that politics and public service is really Yang’s wheelhouse. If he wants to cut his teeth on state politics, and then move up to the national level, he’s welcome to prove me wrong. (Not that he gives a shit about my opinion. But I think he’ll have a hard time getting elected without getting lower-stakes experience first.)
