I went for a walk and found a vape on the ground. It had a symbol of a cross through a bin so I thought I should be a good citizen and dispose of this thing properly. I searched the internet and found an article that said to disassemble it, carefully cut the wires to the battery, put the liquid receptacle in the bin and drop the battery off at the local Officeworks for recycling. 🙄 The thing was solid, it had no screws and seemed to be impossible to open. At least you can put cigarette butts in the bin…
Disposable vapes are the worst, but hugely convenient which is why they’re popular I guess.
No idea how this thing is going to be kept from going out of control.
Can someone please explain how all these (what I assume to be shady as fuck) tobacco and vape shops stay in business? They are sometimes just down the street from each other. Are they just fronts for Big Tobacco?
Many sell illegally imported cigarettes under the counter. They’re about $20/pack (compared to $40–50 for legal darts) and all cash transactions.
Big tobacco doesn’t like them. People must like variety and convenience and margins are probably good if they’re not heavily taxed.
You have to do all that to dispose of a vape? There’s gotta be thousands littered around. Where I live you can just drop them off at a local tip so I keep mine and when my “dead vape” tin gets full I just take them all at once. Even though it’s so easy to get rid of them properly there’s still WAAY too many just lying around.
Australia seems especially shitty recycling e-waste. We’re probably supposed to do the same thing with electric toothbrushes but I bet no one bothers.
Most of the batteries are rechargeable lithium
I found one in a creek in the middle of nowhere. Same deal, broke it open and removed battery. It was a really wild area so either fisherperson or came downstream in flooding.
Good on you for doing it.
Kids at schools just flush them down the toilet. So you can try that
