At least they got rid of the stupid glass back, although I would have preferred plastic back, and the money spend on the alu-body, was spend on better camera instead.
But congratulations on getting rid of the almost all dominating glass black. Not sure if you read the article. But, its not full metal. It’s a 2-tone design with the top part of the camera island being a glass design.
I watched the video. And I’m surprised they didn’t mention whether the screen is still with Dragon Trail glass.
All in all, I must say I’m not impressed with the decisions for Nord 4, compared to Nord 3.Snapdragon 7+gen 3 makes it worth it IMO. Its leaps ahead of dimensity 9000 with better power efficiency and performance. The battery life is good too. They improved the water and dust resistance to IP65 from IP54. The software update police has improved significantly from 3-4 years of OS & security updates to 4-6 years of OS and security updates.
The camera could’ve been improved but I think the metal body, improved update policy and the 7+gen3 processor took a good chunk of the budget.
No charger in the box is a scummy move any way you slice it. At least should’ve given a launch day offer of giving the fast charger.
Snapdragon 7+gen 3 makes it worth it IMO.
Yes that’s definitely an upgrade, but there are lots of better SOC now, they could also have used the Dimensity 9200+, which is comparable to Snapdragon 8 gen 2. And even the Dimensity 8200 Ultra would have been better.
No charger in the box is a scummy move
Yes and the price is allegedly the same, we expect improvements, like better SOC and Camera, but not at the cost of making other things worse.
I’m not impressed by IPS 65, No-charger, Snapdragon 7+ gen 3, and worse camera , if they want to make a “flagship killer”.
IMO the Alu-body ads nothing over a good synthetic back, that is lighter thinner more durable, protects the phone better and is cheaper.
The only thing worse than Alu is glass. But that’s probably subjective, others may love their choices?
Pros
- Solid, standout all-metal design.
- One of the best-in-class battery life.
- Excellent chipset performance for the class.
- Main camera produces nice stills day and night.
- Competitive fast charging solution.
- 4 years of major software updates.
Cons
- Selfie and ultrawide cameras are meh, no EIS in 4K.
- Refresh rate control is inconsistent; rarely uses 120Hz.
- No bundled charger (in Europe).
Cons: No bundled charger (in Europe).
The OnePlus Nord 4 comes in a fairly standard retail box with the usual user manuals and a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging and data transfer.
is that really a “con”?
how many usb cables do we need? When you get one with each tool you get, you end up with dozens of cables you never use
I agree with you but this phone comes with a proprietary super fast 100W charging tech that only works with their charger and cable.
how many usb cables do we need?
It’s always nice to have a proper cable rated for the speed and charging capability IMO, apart from that cables break, and they cost next to nothing to include.
Chargers are also sometimes problematic, if they aren’t original, they often revert to a much lower charging rate.
Something that apparently can only be solved, if the laws mandate it. For which we depend on EU.at this charging rate not every cable will suffice though
I think you meant charger? In any case. This phone supports 100w of fast charging. Unless, you specifically have supervooc chargers with 100w or higher speeds of charging. Any other charger will not support super fast charging.
the time is now! demand user serviceable nvme slot that fits all the way to 2280!
NFC
:)
no wireless charging
:(
All I want is a phone with an efficient CPU, NFC, and wireless charging. And I guess probably root. If only the new pixel wasn’t so ugly it might be OK.
Nice looking phone, within my budget.
No word on the pwm rate though. I know the 12 and 12R had high frequency pwm dimming; hopefully NotebookCheck does a review of this phone.
at least it’s snapdragon, not mediatek, it’s important efficiency wise, but yeah, cameras are still meh, also charger isn’t in the box, I wonder how many users will buy fake 100W chargers from aliexpress and burn their houses
anyway, don’t believe their fake AI bullshit, it’s only a buzzword for some algorithms etc
Mediatek makes good processors. It’s not like the old days. The flagship dimensity 9300+ for example is more efficient compared to snapdragon 8 gen 3. Plus, you can’t always be sure with snapdragon releasing heaters like 8 gen 1, 888, or the infamous 810.
But, yeah 7+gen3 is superior to most everything except flagship hardware.
You can check the cpucurve for most mobile processors here: https://www.socpk.com/cpucurve/
Mediatek phones never get custom ROMs since Mediatek refuses to publish the necessary packages although the Android license demands it
The Nord 3 did very well with the Dimensity 9000, and it had better camera.
A Dimensity 9200+ would have been better, that’s competitive to Snapdragon 8 gen 2.
So unless the Nord 4 is cheaper than Nord 3, I’m not impressed with how they balanced it.I bought Nord 3 at launch and I’m not impressed with the battery life and how hot it gets, and I’m not even gaming
OK, but it’s tested “above average”
https://www.gsmarena.com/oneplus_nord_3-review-2584p3.phpSo for sure it isn’t exactly bad.
But, this has better power efficiency compared to dimensity 9200+. Using dimensity would’ve meant lower battery life.
OK, then you may prefer the Dimensity 8200 Ultra, this is still faster then Snapdragon 7+ gen3, and more power efficient than Dimensity 9200+, but uses Mali graphics instead of Immortalis, still good for gaming, but not as good as the 9200+, and it’s cheaper too, which could make room for better camera. ;)
7+ gen 3 is superior to both. Dimensity 8300 ultra is superior to 8200 ultra and Dimensity 9200+ is superior to dimensity 8300 and lower.
You were probably thinking about 7+gen 2.
You can check the power curve here: https://www.socpk.com/cpucurve/
Rankings for gpu, CPU can be checked on the main site by here: https://www.socpk.com/
If we are talking about cheap. Dimensity 8300 ultra would’ve been cheaper. But, I guess oneplus wanted the snapdragon name to woo consumers.
The Dimensity 8200 ultra was slightly faster and more power efficient than Dimensity 9200+ in tests of the Xiaomi 13T against the 13T Pro. (except graphics)
They are comparable to Snapdragon 8 gen 2, except the 8200 Ultra doesn’t have as strong GPU as the 9200+.
AFAIK Both are faster than Snapdragon 7+ gen 3.The Dimensity 8300 Ultra is another league: https://beebom.com/snapdragon-7-gen-3-vs-dimensity-8300-benchmark/
You are confused. That article is talking about snapdragon 7 gen 3 on Nord CE 4. I’m talking about Nord 4 which runs on 7+gen3. Which is nearly twice as fast as regular 7 gen 3 which is a midrange Soc.
OK, I looked at the link you provided, and the Dimensity 9200+ is rated faster than the Snapdragon 7+ gen 3 with a score of:
- box (Cyan) 199,1 vs 178,9 Mobile phone/tablet chip comprehensive performance ranking
- box (blue) 146,8 vs 146,2 (even) Mobile phone/tablet chip CPU performance ranking
- box (yellow) 321,8 vs 255 Mobile phone/tablet chip GPU performance ranking
- box (red) 120,8 vs 114,5 Mobile phone/tablet chip GPU performance ranking
So the Dimensity 9200+ is similar in CPU speed, and the 8200 Ultra is similar in CPU speed to 9200+ (slightly faster), according to tests between Xiaomi 13T (Dimensity 8200 Ultra) and Xiaomi 13T Pro (Dimensity 9200+).
PS it’s a very cool page, so I made the effort to translate what the numbers actually were. Thanks for good info. ;)
Damned! I was sure it said 7+, I’ve been looking quite a lot for it, and even put the “Snapdrogon 7+ gen 3” in quotes searching for it.
Then I have to apologize, that I can’t even find a comparative speedtest!? And I couldn’t read the Chinese one you linked.
