*flair takes me back to the South Park episode with tobacco and food
—————————————————————————
Erm idk where to even start but if you haven’t watched Painkillers yet, please do so. I cried a few times and had many thoughts and opinions. I’ll keep it short though, part of the horror in watching it was how easy corporations and companies can get away with stuff legally in our faces and it made me think about how sugar is so deadly yet so normalized.
(No I am not making this about me just simply the theme of legal life threatening things that exist every day)
If they can get away with that, imagine what “sugar”, yes processed sugar, HFCS, etc, is getting away with. When I want to diet I cry about thinking about not having sugar, when I wake up I have to have sugar, when I eat dinner I have to have sugar, when I am bored I have to have sugar, when I am up late at night I have to have sugar. But what’s most sinister is that this has been occurring for most of our lives, the supermarkets are filled with sugar, pasta sauce is filled with sugar, cereal is filled with sugar, sugar sells, so most likely products in the market besides produce are filled with sugar, which makes this feel more normal.
(Sugar is/was a cash crop)
The idea that made me dwell on this is how not abuse but the accessibility and availability of the painkiller was so lethal. Trusted doctors are/were prescribing addiction to their patients, there was a da*n mascot, salesmen, etc. I feel sugar has this similar affect of accessibility/availability on a wider scale.
The fact that these products still have to be approved and get approved boggles me but whatever.
Idk I just feel like after watching this amazingly directed short series that everything out here deserves to be questioned.
Were companies who fill their products with sugar afraid to lose money in the future with people trying to be more healthier so they’re pushing sugar harder?
Idk but I’m just disgusted, good series though.
