Hey guys, with the release of Overwatch 2 on Steam, I have decided to produce a quick video covering the two current methods of installing and playing this game on Linux.
Either using the Blizzard Battle.net client installed using Lutris, or directly with Steam using Proton.
There is also the written version below for people that don’t want to watch the video.
In either case, coming back to Steam, I was expecting it to be similar to when Apex Legends was made compatible on Linux, a stutter-fest, however I am pleased to announce that at least with my installation of EndeavourOS, a Ryzen 5 3600 and Nvidia 3060ti, this is not the case at all.
I have played a couple of matches, some footage which is in the video, and honestly, I am not seeing any stuttering, and this was presumably before a shader cache was available for my configuration.
So, at this stage, for sake of simplicity, and the fact that Valve will want to support this title on the Steam Deck, if you want to play Overwatch 2 on Linux, I would recommend using Steam.
Hopefully, Diablo will follow suit soon, so I don’t have to use yet another game launcher, although Battle.net is one of the better ones, looking at you, Rockstar Launcher.
