    Not that I’m against workers of all kinds uniting, but why exactly UAW? Has UAW shifted into supporting more general unions in other sectors? I was under the assumption UAW membership was for people who worked factories manufacturing cars.

      They’ve been a good union and have fought for their workers where many have done little for generations.

      But unions are welcome to represent anyone who wants to be represented and the union agrees to do so.

      I worked for a health department once that was represented by Teamsters, which was more a trucking union than one of sanitarians.

          Typically unions only work via solidarity anyway. Fuck with the dockworkers, guess whose truckers aren’t coming to your terminal, whose technicians aren’t maintaining your vehicle fleet, whose mail workers aren’t delivering your mail.

          The goddamn union, that’s who.

          Except in freedom-less countries, this collective action is literally illegal.
