  • In regards to php and js, unless you are talking about node.js, they are in opposition.

In regards to asp.net, everyone other than windows corporate fanboys dogged the shit out of it. I got hired to a firm who asked for example code, and I submitted a php CRUD that I wrote in just a few hours.

Go through all the paperwork and basic onboarding: and it is asp.net. Fixed a couple of obvious bugs the first couple of days but quit.

Ruby on Rails got a lot of hype from my friend back in the day, but he wasn’t much of a programmer but kept pushing me to learn it. Just wasn’t my jam.

I find that perl, php, python, and js are my most used approaches for web dev. Everything else I write in assembly. /joking, just had one class on it, and to those who can develop in pure assembly, I will bend my fucking knee. "Forgive me, m’Lord, for I am but a simple man. Please afford me forgiveness for needing just a little bit of abstraction. I know I don’t deserve it.

  • The cook should be represented as the database.

Back in the 80’s, my brother “hacked” a pizza place because he knew how they wrote green olives and black olives on their ticket. He dated a girl who worked there for a stint.

I don’t remember how it worked and he has since passed, but it was something with the order that he would list the toppings that would fuck up the cook, so the order always came out wrong and boom! Free pizza.

  • More like corporate welfare. Windows 10 was touted as just going to be called Windows, no more versions persè as it would be just an agile rolling release.

Then Intel was like, “these peeps are using 24 year old computers and slapping SSDs in them… we need to do something to get people to buy computers, Micro$lop.”

And they replied with Windows 11, which forced people to buy new Intel hardware, slapped a new UI that is buggy and gross, threw in copilot, and it takes a ton of registry edits to make the damn thing usable for me.

Anout to go back to BSD or just say, “fuck technology” and become an electrician.

  • I am not asking what your definition of propaganda is. I am saying I am missing your frame of reference.

She doesn’t do propaganda. We would have never, ever dated. She ended up working at a hospital.

So I guess raising awareness for women to check themselves and how to for breast cancer (literally what she did) is somehow now propaganda.

You don’t like boobs and human lives? Are you one of those anti-breast-checkers? Breast cancer denier?

Well, I am drinking the kool-aid, Alex Jones. /simply being facetious, not mocking you, so please take no offense.

So I do computers/networks/programming, and I have a big white board in my living room.

She was finishing her bachelors and I came home one day to find she wrote “I am so sick of talking about talking!”

I didn’t erase it. Just worked around it. And I would point at it anytime I had to repeat myself. I am obviously a charmer.

But we aren’t together now, actually, because she didn’t want children and I did. So it goes.

  • I would rather just get a $100 brocade off eBay. Ubiquiti edge routers (at least four years ago) were nice but good god: don’t let them lose power.

Fortunately, the router runs off a thumb drive, but when you are trying to fix a network that is in production and the FNG figures he can just power cycle it like Comcast taught him with his router at home… fml. Especially on a WAN (like ISP), it is a fucking nightmare.

I have found Sophos and Netgate to be good solutions for small businesses, except setting VLANs on Netgate is a pain, but so is setting a VPN on Sophos. And Sophos is also a licensing bitch.

  • God, I agree so hard. And they rename shit rather than sticking to IEEE standards. And while GSM3 is free, the firmwares aren’t.

It is cheaper to buy a $100 48 port brocade off eBay than a $5000 24 port that then requires you to pay to learn how to use it.

Cisco is the network devil, as well as Fortigate, Juniper, and Sonicwall. Ubiquiti is almost getting to be as bad but in a different way: let’s make shit so user friendly that CEOs love it, but user unfriendly so that network guys are like, "dude, this should be fucking simple! I have to dig into all these menus and then find the field buried in a pretty format.

“Just give me the terminal. Oh, I can ssh in but I don’t have sudo. Nope, you need to use the convoluted web UI to so that.”

  • I went on a date with a girl who said she was going to school for communication.

We were at a bar and grill, so I misheard her and started deep diving into networks, fiber, PTP and OTA, my favorite switches and routers, why I hate and love Cisco, but why I prefer Brocade and Ruckus, was even starting to get into AM and FM when she finally stopped me:

not communications, communication. Like, you know, talking.

    Oooooh. That’s cool.

And somehow I saved the date and we were together for a good five years.

Didn’t even get to satellites. She did really appreciate that she didn’t have to pay to have her macbook repaired, or any other IT shit.

  • This never happened. I was a fucking ninja.

The closest I came to something like that was when the customer on someone else’s call heard me, but they were crying with laughter. Fortunately, they only caught me when I roasted someone pretty damn hard.

They also heard me switch gears, and although it drove the tech’s AHT up a bit, it was so funny to her that she asked me out. We ended up dating for three years. (dated the tech/csr, not the customer. The customer was being a Karen until she heard me, and then she changed her tone and the tech’s call went much smoother.)

  • Computer scientists don’t understand this. This is systems.

Seriously, I have met computer scientists who admit they don’t know how the computer works, but simply is processional math.

One dude just got his phD in computer science and admitted to me he cannot even use his phone. Wish I was joking.

Computer science doesn’t mean you know how to a use a computer; astronomers and microbiologists don’t know much about telescopes and microscopes.

And CS students have the dumbest “smart” questions.
