Hoping the new calendar will finally have a search. That’s the one reason I have to revert to Google calendar at times

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Not once in my 40-odd years of life have I used a WYSIWYG editor that, once committed/submitted/saved, actually *gave me what I saw*
2·1 day agoIt sounds like you are only talking about html.
Delphi VB6 C# Winforms Qt
These wysiwyg editors usually worked/work without issues.

World News@lemmy.world•UK moves to ban smoking for everyone born after 2008English
62·4 days agoThis. Furthermore, because the date is fixed, a decade from now, only middle aged people will smoke in public. I really doubt if youngsters find it appealing at that time, to adopt a habit associated with the elderly.
Depending on your phase in life and education, you could take a look at German education. Master studies are often tuition free and they come with a student residence permit, meaning you are allowed to work and stay in Germany during the study. Afterwards you can apply for an EU blue card and you can stay indefinitely after several years of work.

World News@lemmy.world•Cheap Batteries Are Taking Over the World’s Power Grids | Falling costs, rising electricity demand and the Iran War are nurturing a boom in energy storage.English
1·6 days agoThe best setup would be a dynamic electricity contract and solar panels + batteries + heat pump or airconditioning, optionally EV.
Using only batteries will lead to diminishing returns because of the surge in batteries everywhere, having an overall stabilizing effect on energy prices throughout the day.
Store the excess PV energy in batteries during the day and, at times when electricity is expensive, sell it or use it for home appliances, heating or EV charging.

World News@lemmy.world•Cheap Batteries Are Taking Over the World’s Power Grids | Falling costs, rising electricity demand and the Iran War are nurturing a boom in energy storage.English
5·6 days agoSeems to be the classic GW vs GWh struggle journalists cannot comprehend.
In 2025, the EU added around 12 GW of extra power output from batteries, and about 25 GWh of energy storage capacity to the already existing infrastructure. Meaning the batteries can output 12 GW of power for more than 2 hours before they are depleted.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: The French language is projected to be the world's most widely spoken language in the world by 2050
1·7 days agoEnglish is the number one language for trading, even if the US falls into despair. It is the most dominant second language in the world. Even the Chinese learn English starting primary school these days.

Technology@lemmy.world•EU age verification app announced to protect children onlineEnglish
1·8 days agoIt is possible but doesn’t sound all that realistic to me. A truly decentralized app cannot be blocked by dns or endpoints. Thus a country would have to DPI the entire internet which is very resource intensive. And even then the data will be encrypted so you would have to resort to fingerprinting and finding patterns. From an age verification app to automatic data blocking based on deep packet inspection with fingerprinting of the entire internet - that seems quite a leap. Personally I don’t think decentralized apps are next in line to be blocked.

Technology@lemmy.world•EU age verification app announced to protect children onlineEnglish
0·9 days agoHow would they do such a thing? Require every open port on every internet connected device to be registered? Disallow https and implement full scale layer 7 scanning?

Technology@lemmy.world•EU age verification app announced to protect children onlineEnglish
0·10 days agoIt could greatly boost the use of decentralized apps. Which will ultimately give people more power than they have right now. So in the long run, it might have some positive side effects.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces wipe out over 900 Russian troops in a day and a half
5·1 month agoUnclear if these are real deaths though, possiby this number includes wounded as well. Totals for the Ukraine war are around half a million deaths and 2 million injured until now. So around 350 deaths/1400 injuries per day

I have mailbox.org for a side project and although it works well, I don’t really like the experience since several parts of the site default to German instead of my own language.
