And to be clear in no way am excusing the behavior of people who respond in this fashion, but I can also understand how they ended up where they did.
I completely understand hating some people from any category of anything, but when you broadly blame ALL of a group you are absolutely going to alienate people who were either on your side or neutral. I think this is exactly what happened to a lot of guys. They were just sitting there minding. Their business and suddenly they are being told that they are inherently evil and shitty just because they are men. They hear it on the news and on social media. Pop culture takes a shit on them too once in awhile.
It doesn’t exactly take a rocket scientist to see how this could end up twisting around in the minds of some of them.
I don’t have the specific answers for how to combat this sort of stuff completely, but I think a good starting point would be to have more targeted criticisms as opposed to just going after an entire gender broadly. I think that has clearly done more damage for gender relations than it has helped anything so far.
Just my 2 cents as a guy who has seen some old friends who were once self proclaimed feminists now go full on into hating women. It’s sad to see.

If it’s just me I’ll walk in the middle so I can dodge either direction should I need to. If passing someone who’s coming towards me I gauge direction based on the variables such as a dog or multiple people or whatever. Sometimes it’s better to stand aside and let them pass. Sometimes is better to just detour into the grass momentarily. It all depends.
If I am with someone I tend to stand between them and whatever the most dangerous thing might be. So usually towards the street with the cars, but I will swap sides if the other side has groups of people that are the more immediate potential threat.
At the end of the day I walk faster than most and I am bigger than most so I just walk wherever and try to avoid collision pathing.
Real world me is very nice. I go out of my way to help strangers all the time and only resort to violence as a last resort.
Video game me is Satan on wheels. I’ll kill a mf just for looking at me wrong.
beamNG.
There is no sadness. Only smashed cars and bent metal.
MoreFPSmorebetter@lemmy.ziptoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Great reminder that our president is a felon2·6 days agoI honestly can’t say for certain. Google says the first one is from the Nobel Peace Center. Second one says inauguration, but I wasnt able to find anything else verifying that. The third one was in Chicago, but they also did it to our cities out here on the west coast as well.
I would imagine those were put up at the request of the governor or mayor of each state/city.

I completely understand hating the Cheeto but lets not pretend that this sort of thing is abnormal.

I do not care about the weight of my phone within reason. Not so I care about size much anymore. I have an S23+ with a case on it that adds a decent amount of thickness not only for protection but because I have big hands and the phone without a case feels like it’s going to slide out of my hands very easily.

That way we can also go through the range of emotions with her at the same time when she finds out.
Just start the movie from her perspective. Pod opening and Pratt is already there. He tells her his pod just opened and he’s confused too. Then we get the whole “wandering the shipn for the first time” montage where they could drop subtle hints that it’s not actually his first time doing any of those things.
His character is absolutely a bad person, but it’s a situation we can sympathize with because being truly completely alone for any amount of time fucks with people badly. She has every right to hate him for the rest of their lives, but it turns out that if he hadn’t done what he did they all would have died because of the damaged engine or whatever it was (I can’t remember).
They could have made the movie much harder hitting and/or creepy for the first half, but they opted to try and make you sympathetic to his situation from the start.
It’s the movie that always pops into my head when thinking about wasted potential.
I said mostly clean. Yeah you gotta deal with dust, cobwebs and the occasional mouse or whatever, but it’s better than getting literally shit sprayed all over you.
Electricians make good money and the work is mostly clean.
Plumbers make great money and the work is mostly disgusting.
Really it depends on your threshold for gross and how much physical labor you are willing to do yourself.
Schrödingers president. He’s a senile moron who shits himself and can’t form coherent sentences, but he’s also an evil mastermind that is masterfully installing a fascist regime right under our noses!

We are heavily dependent on oil even as we try to shift away from fuel as out primary means of transportation.
MoreFPSmorebetter@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your plan for the Zombie Apocalypse?3·9 days agoTanks are heavy for sure but they aren’t THAT much heavier than a handful of cars. Plus if it’s just for protection against zombies and other humans on foot we wouldn’t need a heavily armored one.
MoreFPSmorebetter@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is coal and fossil fuels still used?261·9 days agoI don’t think the average person truly understands exactly how much of the stuff they use every single day is a byproduct of the petroleum industry.
The obvious ones are oils as lubricants and fuel to burn for vehicles, but it goes soooooooooc much further than that.
Here are some quick examples of things many people do not realize use petroleum byproducts in one way or another.
So while we very well may be able to stop using traditional fuel to run vehicles in the future we still have to find alternatives for a lot of other things. The industry is not going anywhere anytime soon.
