Any import of said merchandise should either be banned across all of copy write agreed countries until all associated fines and penalties are paid. Then they can sell their own unique designs.

Damn, I wanted to find a good Dbrand competitor. Does anyone know who else makes good skins and or cases?

I’ve been burned so many times by Dbrand and don’t know who to trust anymore

The most recent was the pixel fold case.

The case shipped months after the phone released so I had to buy a temp case because I didn’t want to damage the phone. The cases edges are too high, so it breaks gesture navigation. When I tried to get a refund they didn’t want to refund the skins. I ended up keeping it as the temp case holding stickers wouldn’t secure anymore.

The case broke where the plastic was thinner near the camera cutout meets the side. The case now just falls off .

I bought an expensive thin magsafe/pop socket thing that will now need to be replaced. I can’t use my phone without a case so I’m on my third temp as I wait for Dbrand to respond.

All that said, the breaking of gestures is ridiculous. No one must have actually tested it to notice how much hard gestures are when you raise the edges so high.

Sorry it’s a wall, if you enjoy Dbrand I’m really happy for you, I’m just a stranger whose agitated

I can’t get over the fact that they didn’t try to sharpen the image more after copying it. Like I would’ve thought after doing some test prints and seeing how blurry to shit the image was, they’d try to make it better.

If I got that skin/case sent to me I’d be pissed if it looked like that.

As others have pointed out and mentioned map makers and dictionary authors have done this for centuries by adding fictional places or fake words to catch counterfeiters and plagiarists.

Dbrand has a lot of little easter eggs, it’s so fun to see what they snuck in there. My steam deck says something about exploding lemons on the battery cover.

I work for the government, we work in Geospatial Information matters, that provides topographic maps, basemaps, natural features of our country, one of them is rivers.

There are some suspicion of evidence here and there that even Google Maps using some of our vector features. We can see it clearly when zooming in, the shape and angle of every drawing is exactly the same.

Unlike roads, small rivers should be more unique from one company to another company to draw, because it’s not really clearly seen from satellite imagery. So when it’s exactly the same shape and angle of every vertex, it’s seems they copied ours. Ours are drawn in early 2000s.

But our data can be downloaded easily and free in our website, that’s must be the case, it’s free. But some recognition and attribution could be nice though.

Government materials like that are public domain as far as I know, so anyone is well within their rights to use it in whatever way they see fit, even without attribution. I think that’s a cool feature of the government, not a bug.

Certainly it is better than just ended up in box on our warehouse, or just a file in a server no one will ever see it exist, (unless they are academia, scientists or other bodies of government that needs that maps for their work).

I see your point though. It’s all about marketing. And in this capitalist economy that’s sucking us all dry, it should be a law at least to credit the govt in a meaningful and reasonable way, so awareness is raised about govt programs and features.

That tax dollars contribute to perfecting a product that, ultimately, mines the tax payers is just sad. And that people don’t know about it compounds it.

Needs to be a change so that government-funded stuff is free to use for non-commercial purposes, but anyone using it for commercial purposes has to pay a licensing fee.

One case a few years back, a TV station filed a DMCA takedown notice against another site that had posted footage that was frame-by-frame identical to a clip on one of their news broadcasts. The “pirated” footage? Footage from the Mars rover. The site they filed the takedown notice against? NASA.

I don’t see why we should pay a fee to use the works commercially when, by participating in this country’s society, we already pay the fee to use it through taxes. We pay the government to make these materials for our free use.

The news station thing is stupid, and has no legs to stand on, legally speaking. It’d just be thrown out when it’s fought.

Ive recently build a cosplay prop and blueprint, and I’ve added a couple of ‘wrong’ features that will make copies evident.

That was a 10 months of work, and I’m not handing out the real one for free. It’ll eventually leak, as nobody else has made this design in 20 years. But it’s nice to briefly own an entirely unique and accurate representation of something really cool.

Them to be smart about it since they have a presence outside of China. Meaning they can be prosecuted and something to lose.

There’s a reason why China knick knacks at your local supermarket cost more than ordering straight from China. It’s that the stuff has been somewhat vetted because the seller has to answer to powers that be.

I mean it’s much worse if they had. Since they appear to literally be downloaded images of the promo images they had on their own site, any removals of anything is worse because there’s an intent of malice required to do that

it’s still stealing either way but they literally just took the entirety of the images, and the easter eggs were not the biggest parts that were stolen. The amount of work put into the regular areas that are just meant to look nicer is much more of why they stole it and didn’t do it themselves

I wouldn’t have gotten some of them and I watch pretty much every one of his videos. Mostly the ones from dbrand that I wouldn’t have gotten, but I would have gotten their logo, the illuminati triangle, maybe the R0B07, but only because I know those things about dbrand. “Glass is glass, and glass breaks” also definitely wouldn’t exist inside of a phone.

You may not have known what the Easter eggs were, but casetify definitely should have known about way more than they actually removed. It’s more like they didn’t actually try, they only did the bare minimum to try to remove references to JRE or Dbrand trademarks, but even failed at that.

If you watched his Video, then you’ll see that they did remove some of his stuff and replaced it with theirs but apparently, they’ve still missed some. Kinda the oldest trick in the Book to watermark your stuff in some form or another which is also used by Map Makers to embed random stuff here and there of no importance to the general public but will serve the same purpose to catch other companies blatantly copy/pasting your stuff.
