It’s a shame the black version is not on the standard, looks badass imo. Probably next year right?
Gonna get downvoted for this. But never buy apple for their screwed up prices. For the same price you can get a laptop which outperforms this mac in all areas.
As long as you do some smart shopping.
14 inch does not make sense to me as a form factor for a high performance machine. They always run too hot, like a 13 inch. You never get the full power of the machine because it can’t handle it.
14" is roughly the same size as the old 13" macbooks – that number is the viewable screen size diagonal measurement. The 2011 macbook for example just has a larger bezel around the screen.
I’ve owned/used several 13/14" macbooks and they never run hot unless I’ve managed to open several hundred tabs and neglected to reboot for over a week.
My current M1 14" almost always runs cool, even under stress, even while charging. Hearing the fan is so rare that it actually surprises me when it kicks on.
Will it suffer from the stage light effect like my m2 2022 mac does?, I got it on my birthday and sent it to get fixed but the problem still persists
Yay. MAX PRO ELONGATED BANANA TROPHY SCREEN DETACHABLE USB 2.0 DONgLe MAGIC WITH UP TO 8GB stock RAM FAST CPU CORE PLENTY LIQUID STATE DRIVE AIRWAY 50G NET POTATO Only $2,999 Mars Dollars
I thought this was funny. Not sure why so many down votes?
HeyO som1 got the joke. Thanks u/TheNoMan
It’s super fast!
Can I play a game on it? Well no.
Can I connect it to my 3d scanner? Well, no.
But if you want to use it for work it’s super fast!
I have an M1 Pro laptop for work and surprisingly a lot of games work on it now.
This made me laugh. Thank you.
€5264? Holy cow. Sounds great though. I’d love a new MacBook since mine is from 2016.
My laptop (windows) is from 2016 too. Many broken plastic bits, opening and closing the lid is a gamble on whether it stays on or snaps off (the lid). I see it as my throwaway travel laptop, though it is my main laptop too.
How low can you go
Do you need a 2 TB 64 gig top-of-the-line machine?
You should price out a Lenovo and see what you get with similar specs
The cool thing about (most) other laptops is you can just replace the ram and SSD yourself! Buy the cheapest model you can get with the high end processor, then upgrade it! I’ve made literally $1000 off one machine by doing this lol. The ram and SSD get better warranties too. Ram is often lifetime and SSDs are usually 3 or 5 years.
My entire homelab costs less than this thingie :D
That’s ridiculous. 1980s luggable prices.
I’m still using the same Macbook pro from 2013 and it’s still going strong…a little beat up but works just fine. At home I’m still using an iMac from 2011. The problem I’m running into now is that I can’t officially upgraded to a newer OS so apps are becoming unsupported. It’s a shame bc these computers can easily get me another 5 years I’m sure. I can manually install a newer OS but that comes with its own issues
Same and my MacBook is from 2013!
The M silicon macs are in a class of their own. I have the M1 Pro and it’s incredible - no intel or AMD chip laptops can compete for performance on battery or noise levels. Anything that can compete on performance will have the fans screaming like a banshee and will have to be on power cord.
My MacBook Pro in 2011 was $1100, not sure when this all happened but last time I checked here in Canada the cheapest model was like $2500+ so I never bothered.
And for just 1200 you can enjoy 16gb of ram!
10 years’ time and people will be genuinely astonished that anybody even considered a wildly expensive laptop with a massive great notch!
I swear the apple haters in this subreddit are more annoying than the most annoying apple fan anywhere.
It’s crazy the amount of cognitive dissonance people put themselves through to reject the concept that there is a premium product out there that people are happy to pay money for.
And the most expensive.
I love my 14" Pro but I also wish something even slightly comparable existed with windows, just want a fast, cool, quiet laptop with 10+ hour battery life and mini led or oled screen.
Have you not looked into asus, dell, some HP models, or any other laptops? For half the price of this machine you can get laptops which have better performance in all areas.
As for battery life. That depends entirely on what you are doing.
Office programs? Yes ten hours is doable. Gaming? Nope. Netflix? Maybe 5.
If you’d actually used both you would know that there’s just not comparable options with Windows laptops. It is what it is, maybe in the future that will change. You can get a faster Windows laptop OR one with comparable battery life, not both.
Also, a comparable XPS is about the same price as the MBP. Please show me the Windows laptop that’s faster at everything for half the price.
Never gonna happen. It’s amazing how cheap Windows laptop OEMs are.
Qualcomm is looking to compete with Apple, they’re launching their first windows ARM laptops next year. We may yet see a windows laptop equivalent in 2-5 years
… Cheap?
Yep, you’re totally right. Nobody makes a quality Windows system at all they’re all $400 shit boxes
ASUS ProArt StudioBook is the closest I’ve found. So far so good.
Any Asus zenbook oled + ryzen will be exactly just that. Starting at 800 USD.
Asus zenbook oled
No 120hz screen, poor battery life and no metal housing, peak temperatures on cpu get to 95 degrees from the few reviews I’ve seen and fans turn on… hard pass.
Indeed for the screen.
Battery life is 10 hours, it’s 100% metal (aluminum). Also, it’s a ryzen, so very energy efficient and stays cold.
Here’s a review: https://www.lesnumeriques.com/ordinateur-portable/asus-zenbook-13-oled-um325ua-p62963/test.html
pats her 2008 HP Laptop. It’s okay, buddy. You did the touch pad controls, first. Don’t let the new, faster technology make you quit now.
1600 doubloons for 8 gigs of ram, apple fanboys love the slop.
Dude i dont care about how much ram I have. Im too busy enjoying and being productive on this great piece of tech.
If you dönt care about the specs, this is for you indeed
And pretend Apple haters love the karma.
Not true since pros start at 18GB. Also, memory is much more optimized in Apple’s architecture.
Apple’s memory being optimized and phones giving more SoT is due to the OS killing background tasks in every opportunity it gets. Like I was downloading Spotify playlist the other day. The moment I switched to a different app (didn’t even close the app), downloading stopped. It’s shit practice.
As someone with 8gb ram in my m1, I kinda regret it now. When it starts paging it gets bad
I still hate non-upgradeable RAM and SSD.
The biggest problem is the price gouging on the ram upgrades. 8gb of ram on the base M3 macbook is an insult in 2023, and apple charges an additional 200$ per 8gb.
Sadly that’s part of what makes it so fast
Yea that’s one of the reasons I’m still using the same 2011 iMac and 2013 macbook pro. They are still working just fine and I can’t justify upgrading yet because of the customization I will lose. It’s a shame, really. I will have to soon though bc I’m stuck on older OS with no official way to upgrade so I’m losing app support.
May I ask you more about this? I’m sure you definitely wrecked maxed out your ram, and probably upgraded your SSD once or twice, but did you also upgrade the CPU? I’m curious if that’s possible on the earlier models.
I feel like European right to repair laws are not going to let it go.
I hope at least…
36GB is decent, but the next upgrade is 96GB for $800??
For $3200 with one TB SSD?
Before the move to Apple Silicon this could have been put down to Apple’s intransigence (although you could still upgrade the SSD on the Intel Macbooks), but with the additional integration of the M1 and now M2 and M3 then it’s the way it has to be in order to pull off what it does.
I can forego maybe RAM considering its benefits being integrated into the SoC but for how much Apple charges for RAM fuck that
Yep, Apple is super anti-consumer that way. I can understand loving the ecosystem, but Apple sucks for soldering RAM on the board. Dell did a great job of making it pretty easy to access the RAM on their XPS laptops.
