Is this normal on a brake disc? I know rust is normal on the surface and will be gone when the car is driven but is it also normal for rust to be on the rusty part in the photo? Car is 5 years old if that matters.

    The rust on the edge is normal especially in colder states, the pad just dosent context there/ a little bit of rust on the surface won’t do anything. I only fail state inspections if more then half the rotor is covered

    Has to get pretty bad for it to actually cause problems. I usually will recommend rotors when it flakes off and that’s pretty uncommon where I’m at. Usually get replaced for being overheated/badly warped before that becomes a problem.
