Hi everyone i am at my witts end. Ive tried chisel/hammer, prybar, and tapping hammer on the end of prybar. After hours of doing that, it pulled out maybe 1mm lol. I used a slide hammer and it ripped the axle off, leaving the cv halfshaft. i went and got an attachment to attach to a vise grip but it keeps slipping off eventually. Ive been at this for almost 3 days now i’m not sure what else i can do at this point. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!!
I use a slide hammer and steel braided rope, make a loop around the inner edge of the axel
I have a special axle fork that fits between then smack it with a hammer and pops even the most stubborn out. Google is your friend my dude
Thanks everyone for commenting. I ended up getting it out. I went to the store for the 60th time today to get some braided steel. It ended up being to thick to latch behind the halfshaft. I got so mad i took my anger out by going to town with a chisel/hammer again and eventually that worked it out
Good job. I have never failed to get one out, although I have had tough times. I have found that using one pry bar will cause it to tilt to one side making it bind more. Using two pry bars, one on each side, and trying to apply force as perpendicular as possible usually does the trick. A lot of the time with this method I don’t even need a long pry bar, I can use two big screwdrivers and just give them a little wiggle
Was hoping for a positive update! You just never know when an hour job can turn into several days.
I always just use a 16" pry bar and a mallet. The leverage pops em right out.
