This is great news. The lack of good texting between my family members and me as a Pixel user is what pushed me over to the Apple ecosystem ~5 years ago. It’s solid, but I will probably pick up a Pixel if this is resolved, just to see what the other side has been up to for 5 years. Google’s services have always been a better offering, so long as you can get past the lack of privacy.
But no E2EE.
So basically no better than the standard carrier messages and MMS that exists today except… well… oooh, higher resolution photos.
‘Yay’ (said in the voice of Bruce from Family Guy)
Well done to the EU for this incredible, um… ‘victory’?
Wow, Apple finally playing nice with other phones is something I thought we’d never see
Brilliant news, about time! 🙌
Type c, RCS gosh darnet they will catch up to Samsung!
Will this include rcs group chats?
Main bits…
“But at the same time, iMessage isn’t going anywhere. It will continue to be the messaging platform used for all communication between iPhone users. RCS will simply supplant SMS and MMS and exist separately from iMessage when available. SMS and MMS will also continue to be available as a fallback when needed, Apple says. This is not Apple opening up iMessage to other platforms. Instead, it’s the company adopting RCS separately from iMessage.“
Great. So RCS spam is going to be a new feature?
Good, now I can go back to Samsung
Damn I might go return my iPhone 15 I just bought a couple days ago lol. Go back to my paid off iPhone 13 until I can get a new android.
Would this mean free messaging to Android users when connected to WiFi?
It’s about time.
Seriously, are there people out there who actually care about this stuff? Typical first world worries 😋
People in the US don’t like to use 3rd party apps. So when iOS and Android “text” one another, they’re being sent as SMS. “Messaging” apps like iMessage, Discord, WhatsApp, etc are all modern texting apps with lots of features and conveniences. Apple supporting RCS will finally bridge the gap between texting and messaging.
Which colour will RCS messages be? I’m guessing yellow.
Nothing at all to do with pressure from Samsung or google. 100% to do with the EU.
