Was merging over and the construction truck either didn’t see me or did not care. We were at a red light. He had around a car and half of space when I merged over.

Got out to ask for insurance. A little blaming and then he got in his truck and left. Sooooo yeah.

I have insurance with a 1k deductible. They said since it was a hit and run, and I’m not at fault my rates won’t go up.

Should I let geico handle everything or just get the estimate and find a body repair shop myself?

Also a long thin scratch down the side of the car.

Someone merged into me and the insurance company said we were both at fault and I had to pay to get my car fixed.

Did you get a license plate or the name of the company operating the truck?

This is why you have insurance. Don’t overthink it. Shit happens.

This subreddit renews my confidence in my profession at least once a month.

Hi! Insurance adjuster here. 100% a Hit and Run if they didn’t exchange information.

    HOWEVER

Never trust that your rates won’t go up after ANY kind of collision; at fault or not no matter who it comes from unless you’re talking directly to underwriting. Comprehensive claims are a different story.

Eat the deductible and let Geico figure it out. Gets you a rental if you have the coverage, they’ll repair LITERALLY EVERYTHING that might be compromised and Geico is actually pretty good about making sure the claims process gets handled effectively and efficiently. I can bet that an estimate for that kinda damage would run you gratuitously more than any rate increase or deductibles you have.

    Also, buy a dash cam.

Maybe reach out to the construction company. Hopefully you grabbed the plate number at a minimum. If not, file a police report. Your insurance will go after whoever hit you. Remember, they have financial incentive to find the guilty party. That way, they’re not on the hook. Plus you won’t have pay your deductible and your insurance won’t go up. I got hit 2 weeks ago while parked, and the driver was nowhere to be found. USAA found the driver in a couple mins bc I had his plate.

Someone got me a few weeks ago. I don’t have collision, so I’m looking at $6-7k for the repair. The worst part is there isn’t a lot of damage. I’d fix it myself if I wasn’t so worried about the paint matching.
