Hey all, I replaced the brake pads on my car for the first time. I drove to the gym and back (around 20 mins each way) and the back right brakes started to smell when I got home. I took a look and found that it was way hotter than the other brakes around my car, and that there was a light streak going around the rotor, it’s about half an inch wide. Do you guys just recommend I reassemble the brake pads or is there some more possible damage that I should check out. Thanks!

The brake calliper is probably stuck. Press the brake piston back in the installed state and test whether the brake calliper can be moved freely.

It’s somewhat normal for smell and discoloration with new pads. You should always replace/resurface rotors when replacing pads and always bed in pads when possible. That said, if you are experiencing excessive heat then my vote is for parking brake needing adjustment as it’s probably clamping the rotor.

2013 Elantra with burning brakes in one corner after the job? That caliper is locked up. See this frequently.
