I really highly recommend Half Earth by E.O. Wilson for a specifically ecological summery of these ideas. He did a great job in explaining there. (And I would recommend reading Wilson’s texts in general)
I think that’s where they took the idea from. They probably explain his ideas, but it’s also good to go back to the source material.
I assumed they had drawn inspiration from Wilson but I just wanted to add that reading Half Earth is definitely a good idea if you are interested in this
