No one is talking about this. ELON BTFO
Oh trust me, plenty of the discussion sites know that Starlink has chosen a 5 year orbit and that these satellites have very, very limited lifespans.
You just get downvoted and harassed by pro-Elon simps whenever you bring it up on Reddit or other webpages. So it gets annoying to remind people that we knew this shit like 5 years ago.
This argument is weird. Everyone, including Starlink knew this was inevitable. It’s not a surprise, it’s not concerning, it’s just a regular old fact. Like the mpg of a vehicle, or the suggested time between oil changes.
It is a surprise and concerning to me. It is so wasteful and polluting. I can’t be the only one who feels like this?
These aren’t gigantic things spreading litter everywhere, the pollution concern is minimal as they would have an entry trajectory that causes them to burn up on re-entry.
Wasteful is debatable. I’m not familiar enough with the satellites themselves to say what resources are truly being lost. But if we are being honest, there’s likely more resources lost to improperly sorted trash in a single day, than years worth of these satellites burning up.
As to why, I believe it’s a side effect of aiming for low latency in the connections. Internet becomes more and more frustrating to use the higher the latency. And when people are paying over $100 a month, they aren’t going to be satisfied with high latency connections.
They cause a lot of light pollution of the night sky, and when they burn up they pollute the atmosphere.
I’d rather it be like this than let a private company litter the sky with satellites that can become space debris. At least with a low orbit like this everything is temporary.
Actually the only way this is news is if you hate Elon, so none of them would care, unlike your strawman. It is annoying that you inserted a non-existent position however.

I have a simple rule. I see Elon, I downvote. If we all did this we wouldn’t have to keep reading about the guy.
Great idea! I never see anything interesting about this shitbag anyways. His face and name clog up my feeds everywhere.
I hate how much you think that this is something it’s not, it’s the same brand of cringe as Elon.
It was quiet because you can’t hear satellites scream in space.
I’m not sure I see how this stays a profitable service if they’re losing equipment worth 250m in just a single season.
The price has gone up significantly since I got my starlink dish around the time it first became available. The price of the basic dish is $100 more than it was when I purchased mine and the monthly service itself has gone up significantly as well though I don’t remember exactly how much.
Starlink also has more expensive offerings for use on moving vehicles and boats that probably helps offset the cost.
Im curious to see how it will all play out though. I love starlink but it definitely hasn’t lived up to Daddy Musk’s promises. My speeds are usually below 100mbps and he said that starlink could deliver gigabit.
Even with the price increases and the slower speeds it does a great job in the middle of nowhere when there are literally no other options for communication.
I got my vehicle stuck and needed a tow truck but there was no cell phone service so I busted out my starlink dish and was able to call a tow company 60 miles away to come rescue me which was cool.
Oh, I have seen discussion on it.
