So uh, is this a good thing? Do we really want to repeat what happened to Payday 2 and have 50?
Edit: Sorry, my mistake. There’s 81.
Payday 2 came out a decade ago. Eight dlc per year, with a lot being cosmetic, seems fine to me?
That is far from normal. If these are free dlc, then that’s great, but this is more and more regular updates that they are locking behind a paywall. Many of them are not just cosmetic, and are entirely new guns that are overpowered enough to become the new meta in order to complete certain heists on certain difficulties. Some are brand new heists, too. They even added loot boxes two years after saying they wouldn’t (although they have rolled it back since then due to the predicable negative response). It’s always been a cash grab, and it’s unfortunate that it appears they may be falling back into old habits.
No, that is very normal. Between “battle passes” and “season passes” and RMTs in in-game stores, 8 DLCs per year is pretty low.
As for adding new weapons: Welcome to a live game. If everyone that was released was worse than what was in the base game, what would be the point?
If you dislike the game and the kind of DLC they do, have fun. I will largely agree. But this constant refrain that comes up with long running games of “Ugh, there are so many DLCs” makes me wonder if people would lose their mind if they ever realized how many issues of a magazine there were or whatever.
Hmm, are they just breaking off parts of the "full’ game to piece meal for more $$? Sounds like it’s primed for a battle pass too…
Yep, a disgusting habit the big gaming studios have gotten into. At this point there’s no reason to get games like these as soon as they drop. Better to wait like a year or so for the collection to come out for 20 bucks. I’m finally getting bl3 just now and I’m sure my experience will be somewhat improved having all the bug fixes and updates. It really is a shame but I for one don’t ever see myself paying 60 dollars for a game just to be sucker punched with the rest of it released as dlc. It’s so unfair and they should be losing sleep at night. Sorry for the rant.
They’ve confirmed there won’t be a battlepass. And I’m not going to complain about them offering more content down the road for anyone willing to pay, especially considering it’ll likely get a massive discount at some point.
I’ll take this traditional DLC model over a battle pass model any day.
I love a full price game that’s been stripped apart and sold in installments.
Yeah, no. I already know my main’s not coming back; and I’m not about to humor devs who hacksaw off pieces of the full release to make DLC caches again.
“Skeleton of a game released so we can sell you muscles and pieces to make the corpse move later.”
