Crews in Washington, D.C. have begun painting over the city’s “Black Lives Matter” street mural, a notable symbol of the 2020 protests against the killing of George Floyd, after a Republican bill targeting the mural threatened city funding.
The phrase “Black Lives Matter” had been painted in June 2020 on the pavement by the city in uppercase, yellow letters, covering two blocks on 16th Street, about a quarter mile from the White House.
Trump is inciting riots so he can use it as an excuse for Martial Law.
So I’m neither Black or American, but this is just so profoundly sad for me. It was a symbol of people coming together, a symbol of American people still knowing how to fight for their rights.
It’s as if they tore down the Statue of Liberty, in ways worse because BLM was a grassroots thing instead of a state gift.
Sure would be a shame if people went out at night and fixed it.
Since it’s additional paint, it’d be easier to just hose the whole thing down so either they can’t paint it or the paint doesn’t stick.
Should have just changed Black for White. That way they can save on paint and literally have the same effect.
You couldn’t pay me to paint over it. I’d rather quit or be fired.
