So he gets slightly more than the franchise tag, but I’m not sure how this helps him much since it just means he’ll be in the same situation next year.

      So someone pointed out in another community that the franchise tag can also be 120% of the player’s precious salary. It’s whichever value is higher, which would almost definitely be 120% of this contract if they tried to tag Jacobs again. So that makes this deal make a lot more sense since it protects him from the tag going down next year and gets him a little more money.
