They can almost double their weight before hibernation. Of course something with that much fat is tasty hahaIn German it’s cutely named Siebenschläfer (seven sleeper). Cause it’s hibernating for approx 7 months, or just a lot.
I’d try a few, maybe I’m not getting enough dormice in my diet.
I think they were held in earlier times as a deliverer of meat, for people who lived in cities and didn’t have the space to hold pig. I guess? It would make sense.
No they were literally a delicacy. It was thought that eating them would help you sleep better.
